The Translation and Interpreting major was established in 2012 and features several renowned domestic and international professors, a CATTI (Level 1) certified interpreter, and numerous experienced translation and interpreting teachers. In the 2024 Shanghai Ranking’s National Ranking of Academic Subjects, the program was rated Grade A, ranking 25th nationwide. The core course "Introduction to Translation" is a National-level First-class Undergraduate Course, and "English Interpreting" is a Provincial-level Excellent Course.

 

Educational Objectives: The program aims to cultivate professionals with a strong foundation in both Chinese and English languages, proficient communication skills, solid oral and written translation abilities, a broad international perspective, and profound cultural literacy. These professionals will be equipped to serve both the ASEAN region and the entire nation.

 

Main Courses: Introduction to Translation, Translation Technology, Liaison Interpreting, Consecutive Interpreting, Topic-based Interpreting, Simultaneous Interpreting, English-Chinese Translation, Chinese-English Translation, Applied Translation, as well as courses focused on ASEAN and localized interpreting and translation talents, including Regional Economic and Trade Translation, ASEAN English Interpreting and Listening Comprehension, Business English Interpreting, and Computer-Assisted Translation.

 

Employment Prospects: Graduates primarily involve roles in various industries related to interpreting and translation, English education, and international communication. Over 30% of students pursue further studies at the postgraduate level, with a majority gaining admission to prestigious institutions both domestically and internationally.
