Guangxi University established its undergraduate English program in 1947. This program has been recognized as both a provincial and national characteristic program. In 2019, it was awarded the first batch of National-level First-class Undergraduate Program. In 2024, it ranked 68th in the Shanghai Ranking’s National Ranking of Academic Subjects, placing it in the top 30% nationwide.

 

Educational Objectives: The program offers two directions: Linguistics and Literature. It aims to cultivate specialized talents of comprehensive quality, equipped with robust English language proficiency, formidable intercultural communicative skills, and essential related knowledge.

 

Main Courses: Comprehensive English, Viewing, Listening and Speaking, English Reading, English Writing, Introduction to Linguistics, Introduction to English Literature, History of Western Civilization, Contrastive Studies on English and Chinese, British Literature History, American Literature History, Society and Culture of ASEAN Countries, Ethnic Culture and Translation, Public Diplomacy, Practice of International Trade, International Business Law English Reading, etc.

Employment Prospects: Graduates are mainly engaged in English related work in foreign affairs, education, scientific research, commerce, finance, justice, tourism and other institutions and enterprises. About 30% of the students pursue further studies for a master's degree, with most being admitted to prestigious domestic and international universities.
